GENERAL INFORMATION
Soroptimist International of Fallon, Nevada established the, $1000.00, Frances Aguirre Scholarship Award in 2001 to recognize outstanding contributions made by young people to their homes, schools, communities, countries, the world and their academic achievement. This Award program underscores Soroptimists commitment to young people—the leaders of the future.
Frances Aguirre has been a Soroptimist member since August 1956. As a mother of six and a foster mother of 36 children she has shown her love of people by dedicating many thousands of hours volunteering to help others. She has been named State Mother of the year and Golden Rule Mother of the year. She has volunteered for the hospital Auxiliary and the Fallon Senior Center. She has worked with Girl Scouts and 4-H.
ELIGIBILITY
Guidelines for choosing the Frances Aguirre Scholarship Award recipient include the following:
1. The applicant must be a student enrolled in the last year of a public or private high school (or its equivalent) in Churchill County.
2. The applicant must have at least a 2.5 Grade Point Average.
3. The applicant has demonstrated leadership qualities, and has taken an active part in service to the home, school, or community.
4. The applicant shows characteristics of integrity and responsibility in his/her commitment to family and community.
Soroptimists, employees of the Soroptimist organization, and the immediate families of both are ineligible. Previous winners of the award are also ineligible.
FUNDING FOR THE FRANCES AGUIRRE SCHOLARSHIP AWARD:
Soroptimist International of Fallon funds the Frances Aguirre Scholarship Award Program. The Funds are generated through service projects and fundraisers.
CRITERIA FOR SELECTION OF THE FRANCES AGUIRRE SCHOLARSHIP AWARD
This award recognizes young people for their outstanding contributions to home, school, community, country,
the world and for scholastic achievement.
The recommended guidelines for choosing a recipient should include all or most of the following:
1. Applicant must be in the last year of a public or private high school or its equivalent.
2. Applicant demonstrates considerable commitment to family life.
3. Applicant initiates or is involved in student activities that benefit the school and its students.
4. Applicant initiates or is involved in activities serving the immediate community and society at large.
5. Applicant must have a 2.5 GPA or higher.
